De Loop van de Drentsche Aa, Assen - Groningen, 150 km

The Drentsche Aa is a small river running south - north through Drenthe. The river has a reputation to defend, because it has often been praised as the most beautiful stream of the country. The past decennia, streams like these have drawn much attention of nature conservationists, and the results after so many years are often surprising. Much of the dull chanalised water course has been turned into an attractive landscape reminding of the past (at least, we think the past looked like that). Of course, other parts remain boring, since the era of land consolidation has had a devastating outcome for nature and landscape.
